Plurk

So I have created yet another online account, over at Plurk.  You can view my page here.

I’ve been interested in the short form for a while, and have been reading a bit about the influence of web 2.0 tech on it, mainly, the new 140 character limit imposed by Twitter and others.   Will readers be interested in poetry written on/for these kinds of sites?  Will writers be interested in writing on/for them?  Certainly it is all a fad, but even fads have impact.

The purpose of haiku was contemplation, yet the technology’s purpose seems to be over-communication.  As a writer, do I accept that premise, or resist?

next MS

Spent the last few weeks going over all my old poems, seeing what fit with what: topics I return to, themes being re-used. That sort of thing.

I think I can see the formation of the next chapbook manuscript. More autobiographical, focusing on my growing up in the suburbs. Tentative title: The Streets of Suburbia.

Also been thinking about book-length manuscripts. Read Susan Grimm’s collection “Ordering the Storm,” then looked at my own dark clouds and realized I am no way near a full length MS.

My first major writing goal had been a chapbook before I turned 25, and I (just barely) made that. My new far-off goal: a completed full-length MS before I turn 30. (Note: I said MS, not publication. Gotta have some room to breath!)

Well, I have a short, chapbook-sized manuscript on my hands now, dealing with Dr. Tiller’s death primarily, and with my relationships/observations with various aspects of sex education and health as a secondary theme.  Overall, I’m incredibly happy about the project: it’s the fastest, most productive, and fulfilling writing I’ve ever done.  It is tentatively called Outside the Clinic.

If you know any presses looking for a good feminist/pro-choice collection, pass along the info, yes?
